Mary Ann Malack-Ragona and The New York Stem Cell Foundation Presents “Alzheimer’s Disease—W

BAY SHORE, N.Y. - July 14, 2014 - PRLog -- On Thursday, July 17, Mary Ann Malack-Ragona, Executive Director/CEO, Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. (http://www.adrcinc.org/) (ADRC), will be joined by Susan L. Solomon, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, and Dr. Scott Noggle, Charles Evans Senior Research Fellow for Alzheimer’s Disease, The New York Stem Cell Foundation, in presenting “Alzheimer’s Disease — What You Need to Know.” The presentation will take place at the Jewish Center of the Hamptons, located at 44 Woods Lane in East Hampton, starting at 8 p.m.

In her presentation, Ms. Malack-Ragona will discuss the facts and myths surrounding Alzheimer’s Disease. Other topics include the warning signs of AD, updates on local research and national research, the essentials of long-term care planning and how ADRC can assist local families.

Ms. Solomon and Dr. Noggle will discuss the latest research involving stem cells in finding a cure for AD. In addition to her work with NYSCF, she is also a founding member and current President of NYAMR (New Yorkers for the Advancement of Medical Research) and a member of the Strategic Planning Committee of Empire State Stem Cell Board. She has received the New York State Women of Excellence Award, the Stem Cell Action Leadership Award from the Genetics Policy Institute and the Brooke Ellison Foundation’s Triumph Award.

Dr. Noggle, who is also the Director of the NYSCF’s Research Institute Laboratory, is an expert in the derivation of human stem cells and neurons. His research interests include applying new advances in pluripotent stem cell biology and cell reprogramming to the creation of human models of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease, for therapeutic applications. Dr. Noggle previously managed the Tri-Institutional Stem Cell Initiative Derivation Core facility at The Rockefeller University.

“We are delighted to join The New York Stem Cell Foundation for this special and informative event,” Ms. Malack-Ragona said. “This presentation will benefit those on the East End of Long Island who may be caring for those with Alzheimer’s Disease. For the past four years, we have operated a satellite office out of Southampton, so we can accommodate those on Eastern Long Island. That way, they do not have to travel great distances to receive services.”
