Global Data Center Cooling Systems Market (2013 -2018)

The global green data center market is expected to grow from around $25.6bn in 2013 to around $43.5bn in 2018. This covers monitoring and management, IT equipment and power, cooling infrastructure costs

HYDERABAD, India - July 14, 2014 - PRLog -- Data centers consume huge amount of power and lot of heat is generated from the systems, so there is a need to maintain servers in a data center at a threshold level for the optimal functioning of the server farm. Factors like PUE (Power Usage Efficiency) and CCF (Cooling Capacity Factor) are used in monitoring the energy efficiency and cooling capacity respectively in the data center.

Data center cooling which was generally based on CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioning) units has been considered effective but had inefficiencies like air stratification, re-circulation, and bypass air. Hence this chaos air distribution was replaced by the hot aisle-cold aisle strategy which was also slowly replaced by the containment cooling strategy. Traditional cooling systems like CRAH and CRAC are adequate for an overall cooling capacity of up to 10kW and in combination with exhaust ducting can be used for up to 15kW. This however creates hot spots and with increase in racks or servers per rack, the load and the amount of heat generated increases. Hence other strategies like air containment, closed loop cooling and free cooling and so on need to be deployed.

According to IndustryARC analysis, IT Equipment accounts to more than 50% of the energy consumption in data centers followed by cooling, air movement, electricity transformer/UPS and lighting systems. The global data center infrastructure (DCI) market was around $14.1bn in 2013 and this is expected to increase to around $18.5bn in 2018. Growth factors include increasing demand for servers across countries for faster data access and growing data storage needs along with high speed requirements of cloud infrastructure which is maintained by cloud, big data companies. Racks and enclosures, PS and PDUs, cooling products are included in DCI market. The trends and growth factors for data center cooling market are dependent on the parent market of data center infrastructure.

The global data center cooling market is expected to rise from $5.75bn in 2014 to $9.25bn in 2019 with a CAGR of 9.98%. The data center cooling market can be broadly classified into two key categories i.e. Data center cooling services and Data center systems. Data center cooling services are the services offered by the data cooling companies performing an on-site evaluation of the data center room and hence allow the data center operators to operate efficiently while reducing downtime and costs. According to IndustryARC analysis, the market for data center cooling services will surge with a highest CAGR of 11.24% during the forecast period.

The recently published IndustryARC's report on the "Global Data Center Cooling Systems Market (2013 -2018) (http://industryarc.com/Report/80/global-data-center-cooli...)" identifies many such insights and M&A opportunities.

Recently, a new cooling technique has been introduced by 3M (a multinational conglomerate corporation) which could cut data center energy use by 95%. 3M isn’t alone in developing cooling techniques with companies like Coolcentric offering patented cooling technologies in the data center cooling space. Around $20 million has been raised by Rochester’s Liquid Cool Solutions for implementing its own electronic cooling equipment recently.
Asia – Pacific Market Opportunities
The data center market in the APAC region is expected to grow the fastest among all the regions across the world. The biggest market is China and is also expected to continue growing at a faster rate of 17% YoY. Around 64% of Asian data centers are managed in-house (captive) and the remaining are outsourced to colocation hosted service, service centers or is a combination of both. Equinix, Global Switch, Digital reality, CSF Malaysia are the main companies leading the expansion and investment efforts in the region within the DCI space. It is expected by IndustryARC that the data center infrastructure market (by space) will be led by China followed by the South East Asian region and North Asia market.
