Money Raised from Pledges in Her Participation in Heartbreak Hill Half Marathon

What:   Liz Holzknecht, a Mineola resident, will come to Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck to present a check in the amount of $3,500 to Bridget Costello, Director, Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck. Ms. Holzknecht raised funds and awareness for the camp while running in the Runner’s World Heartbreak Hill Half Marathon, which took place in Boston on June 8.

Ms. Holzknecht and her family have a special connection to Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck. Her sister Kate attended the camp’s respite weekends and summer sessions for eight years. On September 2013, Kate passed away at the age of 23. The camp held a special memorial ceremony in her honor and, on March 28, the Moriches Paquatuck Squaws held the Spring Fling Joy Prom in her honor.

         2 Chet Swezey Rd, Center Moriches, NY

Directions:     Travel to LIE Exit 69 (Wading River Road). Take that south to the end. Bear right on Railroad Avenue. Take that to the second light and make a left onto Main Street (also known as Montauk Highway). About half a mile down the road, you will see a sign for the camp. Turn left onto Chet Swezey Road. Take to end and make a right into the camp.

Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck (http://camppaquatuck.com/) was created by members of the Moriches Rotary Club in 1946. Located on the shores of Kaler's Pond on eastern Long Island, Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck is funded primarily by donations and is a special place where children with physical and developmental disabilities can experience first-hand the pleasures that an active life has to offer. Children participate in a wide range of activities especially designed for youngsters who are in wheelchairs as well as those who are ambulatory. These activities include swimming, boating, arts and crafts, petting zoo, talent shows, cook-outs, games and a Carnival Day. The program also provides educational activities in areas such as nature, arts, fire safety and communication skills.
