A Model Event For Runway Hopefuls In Las Vegas

By: Fashion Week Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS - July 11, 2014 - PRLog -- This past Saturday, June 28, was a fashionably hot day in Las Vegas as 40 young female and male models from the city, turned out in the 104-degree temperature to participate in the Model Search for the upcoming Fashion Week Las Vegas Season 5, which will take place August 18-21 at Las Vegas Soundstage Studios, adjacent to the Palms casino hotel. The Model Search took place at the Las Vegas Soundstage Studios as well.

The hopefuls individually walked the line for the chance to be among the 50 chosen from all over the world to compete in the Runway Model Competition held at the week-long event. A panel of industry experts will judge the 50 finalists as they walk and the winners – one female and one male – will each receive a two-year contract with Envy Models, which is based in Las Vegas but also has offices in New York and Los Angeles.

All models registered online and those unable to attend the Las Vegas Model Search were required to send videos of their walk. Since the inception of Fashion Week Las Vegas three years ago, more than 430 models from all over the world have registered for this competition. The various designers showing their lines at the event can choose the models to display their garments on the runway from the final 50 contestants, pictures of whom will be posted on Facebook and also on a private site for the designers, on which they can make their choices, 30 days before Fashion Week Las Vegas commences. The 50 finalists will be chosen by Russell J. Frank, Fashion Week Las Vegas’ Runway and Stylist Director.

“I look at height then at the rest of the person’s measurements,” Frank explains. “The girls have to be 5’9” or taller, have a 25- to 27-inch waist and wear a size 0 to 2 or 4. The guys have to be 5’11 or taller and be physically fit with good definition in their bodies. The more the finalists walk the runway, the more the judges see them. The designer categories for women are evening wear, couture, ready-to-wear, and swimwear. The men’s designer categories are swimwear, ready-to-wear, casual, and formal.

“Las Vegas has potential models but it takes a lot of time to look for them,” he continues, noting that he scours the town for those who could potentially be runway models. “There are a lot of promo-type nightlife/club models here, which means that they are busty and in a different category. They’ve done alternatives to their bodies and they are too curvy for runway. Still, last season, we actually had three winners – two females and a male – and all were from Las Vegas. The year before that, the male was from Las Vegas and the female was from Southern California but she now lives in Las Vegas.”

Fashion Week Las Vegas is the brainchild of Milka Von Rhedey, who owns the name and the trademark. So far, there are 30 designers from South Africa, Dubai, Paris, Trinidad, Georgia (Russia), the U.K., New York City, Texas, Boston, and California that will be attending the August event. Some 42 buyers have also registered to attend at this writing. Fashion Week Las Vegas consists of runway shows, the Runway Model Competition, designer competitions, and entertainment. It is open to emerging designers (those who have been in business for one year minimum but less than five years) and established designers.
