Tattoos have increased in popularity over the past decade and when done by professional tattoo artists are often very detailed and look like a piece of art. But what happens if you break up with a partner or have an operation that leaves your tattoo looking disjointed?

An unparalleled breakthrough in tattoo removal technology, PicoSure’s PressureWave gently delivers ultra-short pulses of energy to the tattoo ink in trillionths of a second without injury to the surrounding skin. This shatters the ink into tiny particles that are easily eliminated by the body. Based on studies, PicoSure has proven efficacy on difficult ink colors, as well as previously-treated tattoos with fewer laser treatments. PicoSure treatments are scheduled 6 weeks apart, with most tattoos taking between 4-6 sessions to remove. Patients feel minimal pain and discomfort while getting their tattoos removed and do not require topical numbing.

“PicoSure erases tattoo pigment more efficiently with far less recovery time than Q-Switched lasers,” states Dr. Sean Rice, Rice Cosmetic Surgery. “After evaluating the treatment and clinical studies, there’s no question that PicoSure’s advanced technology provides us with the most advanced tattoo removal treatment on the market.”

Lindsay Frenette got her tattoo when she was 18 years old. She went to a tattoo parlour with some friends and did not put much thought into it at the time. She immediately regretted the decision but lived with the consequences.

“I was scared to get my tattoo removed,” admits Lindsay. “I had done research and found that the older lasers had problems with removing blues and greens like my tattoo and were painful. PicoSure offered the perfect solution. My first treatment was very quick and was not painful. I felt a little prickly heat with the PicoSure laser but after the procedure it felt great and was not itchy.”

Alison Everall has a number of tattoos on her body that range from a sleeve tattoo to one on her foot to a Chinese symbol on her finger and a tattoo on her abdomen. She appreciates good tattoo art and is keeping some of her tattoos.

“I got the tattoo on my stomach when I was 18 and it is not the same calibre as my other ones and the tattoo on my finger seemed fun at the time but now it is embarrassing so I want to get them removed,” says Alison. “PicoSure is remarkably fast. It pinched a little but the discomfort is completely tolerable.”

Jennifer Walker got her tattoo around her ankle 20 years ago. Although she liked it at the time, as she has gotten older she is insecure about having it and feels it is unprofessional for work and wears pants to hide it.  She started tattoo removal with Q-Switched 7 years ago and had a bad initial experience that resulted in pain, swelling and itching. About 2 years ago she went to another clinic to have the tattoo removed with Q-Switched. She has undergone 12 sessions and will probably need 12 more to get rid of the remaining tattoo using Q-Switched.

“Although the Q-Switched treatments have lightened the tattoo, it is still too noticeable for me to feel comfortable wearing skirts to work,” states Jennifer. “Getting rid of the tattoo was more painful that having the initial tattoo done. I needed to be frozen for each Q-Switched session and was in a lot of pain.  When I heard PicoSure was now available in Canada, I wanted to try it. I have had my first session and it is much quicker, did not require freezing and is relatively pain free compared to older technology. I will continue to have the rest of my tattoo removed with PicoSure.”

PicoSure vs. Q-Switched Lasers:

·         Both PicoSure and Q-Switched are lasers

·         Both PicoSure and Q-Switched break up the ink particles in tattoos

·         The PicoSure laser is measured in pico-seconds while Q-switched lasers are measured in

nano-seconds

·         PicoSure uses photomechanical/pressure waves while Q-Switched photothermal/heat

·         PicoSure breaks down the link into smaller particles than Q-Switched

·         People undergoing laser tattoo removal using PicoSure will have less pain than with Q-Switched

·         PicoSure takes less treatments to remove a tattoo than Q-Switched

·         There is a faster recovery time with PicoSure than Q-Switched

·         PicoSure is more effective on harder colors to remove in a tattoo (blues, greens and purples) than

Q- Switched

Recent data estimates that approximately 20 percent of the 45 million Americans with at least one tattoo regret their decision. FDA-cleared PicoSure has made tattoo removal faster.

In addition to tattoo removal, PicoSure treats benign pigmented lesions, such as brown spots, age spots, and freckles.
