The British are coming! The French are coming! The Americans are already here at the Cass River

July 9, 2014 - PRLog -- On the grounds of the River Place Shops, by the iconic covered bridge and alongside the gently sloping banks of the Cass River, it’s the annual Cass River Colonial Encampment July 19 and 20 – a free, family-oriented and fun way to see how our ancestors won the War for Independence. There will be hundreds of reinactors as the Red Coats along with their Native American allies meet the American Patriots and their French allies. They all will be demonstrating military drills, musket practice, putting on concerts with period instruments and complaining, as soldiers throughout history have done, about the difficulties of living in camp without adequate supplies – such as video games and smartphones. There will even be two mock battles each day.

“It’s a terrific way for families, particularly the kids, to see what life was like nearly 250 years ago as we fought for our independence as a nation,” said Michael Keller Zehnder, Cass River Colonial Encampment Event Coordinator and General Manager of the Bavarian Inn Lodge. “The grounds are perfect, the reinactors are really into the roles they play – and are particularly good at answering questions and explaining things to youngsters of all ages. They really make history come to life.”

There will also be a fashion show and shopping from historical sutlers (that’s what the folks who sold goods and services to the army were called.)

The action will take place from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday, July 19 and from 9:00 am to 4 pm on Sunday, July 20. More information is available at http://frankenmuthriverplace.com/cass-river-colonial-encampment
