Jazz Legend Nat Adderley Jr. to Help Foundation Celebrate 10 Years of "FAME"

BOWIE, Md. - July 8, 2014 - PRLog -- (Bowie, MD) -  Jazz great Nat Adderley  Jr. serves as co-chair and will perform at the fundraising gala hosted by FAME:  Foundation for the Advancement of Music and Education in honor of the organization’s 10th anniversary year.  The event will take place at the Newton White Mansion in Mitchellville, Maryland on Thursday July 24, 2014 at 6:30 pm.

At the gala, FAME will honor several groups and individuals   for what the organization feels is a true commitment to keeping the music playing for children in the Washington area.   Honorees include:  Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker   the Prince George’s County Council as a whole and the Richard Payne Trio.   WJLA anchor Leon Harris will serve as gala  co-chair  and WHUR’s Tony Richards will  MC the event.   Musicians Rashida “Tulani” Jolley and 76 Degrees West Band are set to perform.

The Foundation was founded in n 2004 by A. Toni Lewis, a Washington area native.  Lewis wanted to create artistic opportunities for a wider range of students and young people. “Our mission is to positively impact the lives of youth through access to quality music, education, programs, and experiences,” said Lewis.

The organization now boasts sponsorship and coordination of a wide range of opportunities  for young people in the Washington area as well as Baltimore and Philadelphia including scholarships, technology training from music industry pros , concerts , education seminars and donations of instruments.   For more information go to www.fameorg.org.

Now entering its 10th year, the Foundation for the Advancement of Music and Education, Inc. (FAME) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit corporation based in Bowie, Maryland. FAME was founded in 2004 on the principle that all children, teens, and young adults, regardless of social and economic need, should have access to quality music and music education as part of their lifelong journey to adulthood.
