Soccer in the US is getting better. However, there is so much more work to do but how do we do that?

DENVER - July 8, 2014 - PRLog -- What a tremendous effort by the US men's soccer team in the Brazil world cup 2014. This is truly hard loss. The Belgium team seemed more composed and dominated most of the game but does not take away the great performance by the US team and his goalkeeper Tim Howard.

The US soccer is coming long ways. Many years ago, the US did not even have a professional league, now we do. In fact, our players were not even noticed nor recognized by the world but today American soccer players are showing lots of talent in the world. So there is a definitely a change of direction in American soccer that it will only get better every year.

One of the most growing concern about US soccer is the "old school mentally" that the US SOCCER should be played the same way EUROPEAN play or even using and copying the same training styles and programs. For example, the US team depends too much on LONG BALLS, LOTS OF AIR BALL and COUNTER ATTACKS, We also seem to depend a lots on ATHLETICISM such as only having TALL, FAST and STRONG players. In fact, the US even hired an EUROPEAN coach to lead this team. Furthermore, some of the players in the US Men National team were born in the US but lived and were raised and played all of their career in Europe. I think choosing players that live overseas is a great idea but again Europe is where we always look first. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with European playing styles and systems but that does NOT work for the US.

We need to understand a very simple fact but if you choose to ignore this point then you will miss a great point.., the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA have over 300 millions people, we also have the best fields, stadiums, training facilities, technology and money to build the best soccer teams in the world. Furthermore, American athletes are consistently the best in the world. But even with all of these great opportunities, why do we consistently manage to put a team together that seems to be on life-support every game? they struggle every time.

I believe we are looking at the wrong places to improve soccer in the US.  We need to STOP thinking that we need to play like European teams play or even pick players like European clubs do.

The United States is the biggest MELTING POT in the universe, people from ALL backgrounds, styles, language and even culture are living in the US.
The US has more Spanish and Latin American influence than ANYONE in the world, but we also have so many cultures and people from ALL over the world here in the US, don't believe me? look at how many foreign restaurants and even neighborhoods from different cultures do we have in the US. This is just a fact...I simply think we are ignoring something that it is truly obvious in the US.

I would like to think that the US soccer federation is truly looking at how to develop our own playing style. I am not saying that we need to start looking at Brazilian, or Argentinian playing styles, we should not compare the US with these countries because we are different.
Futbol is a "religion" to many of these country but in the US, we are still competing with Baseball, American Futbol, or even Lacrosse.

In other countries, soccer is played all year because of the weather, they don't need indoor or beautiful facilities to play, they will play soccer on the streets, parks using two rocks as goals. Also, futbol is bigger than life for many countries...In many countries, kids are able to play for youth clubs for free and that include some tough competition and great training but in the US clubs are charging an insane amount of money to play soccer for a club, leaving out great players that cannot afford to play.

I may have several ideas on how to help this matter but what I think or say to the US soccer federation will not matter.  All I am saying is that, the US Soccer Federation needs to think beyond choosing coaches because of their big names, they need to stop talking about being the best and start going outside their bubble to develop our own style and find better ways to SELECT top players from a MASSIVE amount of talented players in the US that often time will not be noticed because they are not in the right club, University or perhaps simply cant afford to play. Again, it is going to take more than copying somebody else style.

I will close this blog by saying, the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA has the greatest resources in the world that people from all over the world are dying to have but what the US soccer federation is lacking is the wisdom to find a way to use and understand that the US is a blend of different culture and styles  and we should be looking at our own strength instead doing what someone else is doing then maybe we will be able to compete and be called the very BEST TEAM IN THE WORLD.
