CHARLOTTE, N.C. - July 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Traumatic brain injuries are the risks that sports players face each day. This is most concerning when young players are involved since it is important to treat their injuries carefully so that they may continue to play or at least live normal lives after the trauma.

The upcoming weeks are going to be busy and meaningful for ChiroCarolina as they contribute to a research symposium and panel that will collaborate efforts for The Matthew Gfellar Sports Related Traumatic Brain Injury Research Center at UNC Chapel Hill Medical School, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Traumatic Brain Injury Initiative at the Salisbury Veterans Hospital, and the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina.

The Matthew Gfellar Sports-Related Traumatic Brain Injury

Located in the newly renovated 1,200 sq. ft. facility on the top floor of the Stallings-Evans Sports Medicine Center is the state-of-the-art Matthew Gfellar Sports-Related Traumatic Brain Injury Research Center. Its close proximity to the UNC Athletic Training Room is ideal for brain injury-related emergencies inside the university and surrounding communities.

Under the sponsorship of UNC Chapel Hill’s Department of Exercise and Sport Science, research center provides the highest level of care for athletes who are suffering from sports-related concussions and offers balance assessment, neurocognitive assessment, and other neurological evaluations. Furthermore, the program also aims to assist and educate parents, coaches, and medical professionals in managing student athletes so they can better care for these athletes.

ChiroCarolina to support the cause for advanced research for high school and collegiate traumatic brain injury care

Not only will ChiroCarolina provide financial support for more advanced research on treating traumatic brain injury, but the chiropractors and staff will also volunteer their time to assist people suffering from traumatic brain injuries and educate the patients’ carers so they can provide proper care during the recovery period.
