The area’s mild summer temperatures and rich lineup of outdoor events lure visitors looking to beat the heat while enjoying good music, great food and live entertainment.

         If you’re thinking “been there, done that,” think again: Yes, there’s a county fair – but this one is at the beach.  For a day, a harbor comes alive with all-things-pirate, and if that isn’t your thing, check out some daredevil stunts or test your salsa acumen before dancing to hot Latin rhythms. Without a doubt, there are VenturaCountyWest events you won’t want to miss this July and August.

For a unique festival, look no further than Ventura Harbor Village where famous pirate re-enactors of Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Hook are seen among the pack of adult and kid pirate costume contests, boat tours and a kids’ treasure hunt. If the crowd-watching isn’t enough, live music and entertainment is provided by Ship of Fools (Sat.), The Pirate Charles (Sun.), and Pirates for Hire (daily professional pirate shows).

Oxnard Salsa Festival

Spicy food, hot music and Oxnard's cool ocean breezes are on the menu for the 21st Annual Oxnard Salsa Festival. Plaza Park is the place for a two-day celebration of everything salsa – the food, the music and the dance. Taste dozens of different salsas – from mild to wild – dished up by local restaurants and salsa vendors in the Salsa Tasting Tent.
