The agreement has the Ottawa-based company producing articles, photography, infographics and videos for the WineTraveller.org web site indefinitely. Cliff Hanger Communications Ltd. will report on wineries and wine tourism in the Ontario, Quebec and New York Finger Lakes regions. The team will also produce select features on local attractions and related food and beverage compliments such as craft beer and specialty foods.
Wine Traveller is a new, global space focused on travelers seeking new experiences and for the wine tourist seeking robust winery and tour information.
The web site helps travellers make decisions about where they want to go and all the information is free and organized for easy online access.
The site launched in June and is currently working with major wineries and regional grower associations.
— Wine tourism attracted 27 million people in the USA alone in 2007 according to the Travel Industry Association. 60 percent of American leisure travellers expressed interest in food and wine travel in the future.
— In Canada, more than 3 million people engage in wine tourism annually according to the Canadian Vintners Association.
— There is no comprehensive wine travel guide on the market, in print or online, for the millions of people involved in wine tourism.
— Wine Traveller will be the 1st publication in the world to produce an online travel book about every wine region and sub-region in the world.
— For the wine and tourism industry, rather than simply offering ads, Wine Traveller has teams that work with the industry to publish articles, produce videos, and post social media content.
— Regional teams, like Cliff Hanger Communications Ltd., work as wine industry journalists, giving informed local knowledge about the region.
— Wine Traveller is owned by Gary Symons, an award winning Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) journalist who pioneered mobile journalism by developing one of the first wireless mobile reporting field kits. He eventually left the CBC to start VeriCorder Technology Inc., which offers mobile journalism hardware, applications and content management systems. He is also the editor of Orchard and Vine: http://winetraveller.org/
“We’re really excited that Cliff Hanger is our first regional partner. The goal of Wine Traveller is to be the best travel guide for every wine region in the world, and to do that we need great writers, storytellers, videographers, and photographers, and they also need to love and understand wine. Cliff Hanger has always impressed us when we worked together on past projects, so when we decided to expand in Ontario and Quebec, they were the first and only name that came to our minds."
— Gary Symons, Publisher, WineTraveller.org
"WineTraveller.org is an exciting new space that solves a lot of the existing challenges for wine enthusiasts and travellers seeking information about wineries. That’s where we come in. As brand journalists, we’ll be working with the Ontario, Quebec, and New York Finger Lakes wineries to showcase their value proposition to global audiences. That means robust articles, photographs, videos, infographics, and more designed to help travelers make decisions and to bring them to the vintner’s table."
