History

In 1970, The Cultural Arts Project offered the Baltimore City low-income youth and families’ vital social service via the arts. Legendary artist like Kathrine Dunham, Pearl Primus, Alvin Ailey, Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis played an instrumental part in the Cultural Arts programs by providing some of the best art instruction in the country, to some of the most impoverished communities in Baltimore City. The arts in Baltimore City during these times were thriving, bringing in some of the largest revenues for art performances in the state of Maryland.
