OAKVILLE, Ontario - July 3, 2014 - PRLog -- The Canadian Digestive Health Foundation has released the first video in a 4-part series on The Human Gut Microbiome – that diverse ecosystem of over 100 trillion microorganisms that live in our gut and impact our ability to fight infection, inflammation and chronic disease.

Approximately 20 million Canadians suffer from some kind of digestive disorder every year. That’s roughly two out of every three people in this country – many of whom suffer in silence.  Research has shown that digestive issues can affect your overall health, cognitive abilities, concentration and your ability to fend off sickness and chronic disease.  According to the CDHF, the direct correlation between digestive and overall health is critical when it comes to protecting the vital system that runs from gum to bum and fuels our bodies, minds and lives.

Did you know that our human cells are outnumbered by bacteria cells at a ratio of 10:1?

The Human Gut Microbiome
is comprised of an incredibly robust and diverse troop of tiny superheroes that live in our digestive tract and work hard to keep us strong, healthy and resilient.  This collection of microorganisms in each one of us is unique – as unique, in fact, as a fingerprint - and strives to maintain in a natural balanced state. "Trillions of microorganisms populate our digestive tract," says Dr. Richard Fedorak, President of the CDHF. "Most of these are helpful and support our good health. Some can make us very sick. Learning how to control these populations is critical to our digestive and overall health."

42% of digestive diseases are preventable and almost 100% can be treated.

Through proactive lifestyle choices, nutrition and proper treatments, digestive disorders can be prevented and managed to a point where the accompanying symptoms that are often painful and embarrassing can be improved. Protecting and enhancing your digestive begins first by being open and honest about how your digestive system, the symptoms you are suffering from, and then by taking active steps to understand, take control and live better. You don’t have to suffer in silence. With the release of the first video in an engaging, animated 4-part series takes complex ideas and makes them fun, exciting and easy to understand as you meet the bacterial superheroes that live within your gut. You’ll see how they work to protect you, learn how they are impacted by probiotics and understand how your microbiome plays such an important role in your overall health.
