WASHINGTON - July 3, 2014 - PRLog -- Since its inception in 2009, LEAP Foundation DC has partnered with more than a dozen other non-profit organizations to support charitable causes in the greater Washington D.C. area and beyond. Established to bring health and wellness educational training and resources to underserved and disadvantaged citizens, LEAP Foundation DC consistently strives to be a leader in promoting healthy and active lifestyles in minority communities faced with significant health challenges. Led by one of the area’s health and wellness experts and a dedicated endurance sport athlete, Dr. Clayton Lawrence can think of no better way to encourage others to live healthy lives than to set the example for others himself.

Dr. Lawrence began training for and participating in endurance sports in 2011. Known for raising awareness and funds for important health organizations and causes, endurance sports represented a way for Dr. Lawrence and LEAP Foundation DC to be more actively involved in charitable giving, as well as a way for him to commit himself to leading a more proactively healthy lifestyle. “The physical and mental strength that it takes to participate in endurance sports reflects the indomitable spirit that each of us have when we push past our limits,” Lawrence states. “To participate in events that place an emphasis on using that spirit as a way to strengthen support for those debilitated by devastating illnesses or life events is an incredible opportunity and one that I am thankful every day that I made the decision to begin doing.”

Since 2011, Lawrence has earned 40 marathon medals, running 6000 miles, on four continents, in five countries, and 11 states, but more importantly, he has been able to be a part of raising awareness for the following organizations: American Cancer Society, St. Jude Foundation, American Red Cross, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, Inheritance of Hope Foundation, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Semper Fi Fund, Demand Cures, and the ING Run for Something Better. “While I have gained a stronger sense of true health and wellness in my own life from being so heavily involved in marathon training over the past three years, it is the work that we have been able to do through LEAP Foundation DC in conjunction with my participation in these events that has truly meant the most,” Lawrence stated.

LEAP Foundation DC has helped raise several thousand dollars and volunteered more than 1,100 hours running since Dr. Lawrence made his entrance into endurance sports. This year alone, he has competed in seven marathons, and is set to compete in six more, with the next race appearance occurring in Chicago on July 22, 2014.
