Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Courses Begin September 8

Fourteen-Week Classes With Tuition and Books Paid for by ADRC

July 2, 2014 - PRLog -- (Bay Shore, NY) – Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. (http://www.adrcinc.org/) (ADRC) has announced the fall 2014 Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Training Courses for Professional Healthcare Providers and Professional Caregivers at three different locations on Long Island, beginning September 8. The classes will be held at the following locations at the following dates and times:

Atria Assisted Living at Lynbrook, 100 Peninsula Boulevard, Lynbrook on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Atria Senior Living at South Setauket, 4089 Nesconset Highway, South Setauket on Mondays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc., 45 Park Avenue, Bay Shore on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

These classes will be offered for fourteen weeks and teach students about the essentials of Alzheimer’s Disease. Students will be taught by Masters Level Certified instructors to gain skills that will improve their job performance. They must also participate in off-site guest speaker classes and lectures. The course objectives include learning the development of Alzheimer’s Disease; identifying specific behaviors associated with the disease and how to handle them; communication skills to increase effectiveness; and strategizing planning for activities and interventions that address the specialized needs of those with Alzheimer’s Disease.

At the end of the course, a certificate of completion will be awarded for a passing grade. Continuing education credits are available for social workers, recreational therapists, and nursing home administrators. Students must register for the class before September 2. The costs for the tuition and books will be covered by ADRC.
