Sulas Industries Issued Patent Covering the HelioDrive Solar Tracking Technology

DENVER - July 1, 2014 - PRLog -- Sulas Industries Inc. today announced that it has been issued a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office covering Sulas’ HelioDriveTM solar tracking technology.

Patent No. 8,763,601 covers the HelioDrive’s groundbreaking approach to solar tracking. Using the power of the sun, the HelioDrive relies on three main components: a parabolic concentrator; a hydraulic actuator filled with a small amount of phase change material; and a single moving component that translates linear travel into rotational motion as the sun travels from east to west. The large hydraulic force generated by the HelioDrive can be used to rotate a collection of photovoltaic (PV) panels, allowing them to reliably and cost-effectively follow the sun and increase their energy yield.

“The issuance of this patent reinforces the value of Sulas’ unique technology, which has the capability of being used to power tracking for a wide range of solar installations,” said John Fischer, Sulas’ President and CEO. “As solar power continues to supply a growing share of energy in the United States and many other countries, we believe the HelioDrive has the potential to play an important role in making economical tracking available to solar projects of all sizes.”

Sulas also announced that it has filed applications to extend its patent rights to the European Union, Japan, China, Australia and India.

About Sulas Industries

Sulas Industries Inc. has developed a groundbreaking approach to solar tracking that uses no motors, gears or electronics. Sulas’ patented HelioDrive technology uses the power of the sun, through simple optics acting on a small amount of phase change material, to generate the energy to rotate a collection of solar panels, allowing them to reliably and economically track the sun and enhance their energy yield.

The HelioDrive is highly scalable and has the potential to be cost-effectively applied to projects ranging from a single solar panel to large-scale utility level solar projects.By removing the cost and reliability barriers that have traditionally inhibited the use of solar tracking, and by significantly reducing upfront, operating and maintenance costs, the Sulas HelioDrive aspires to become the industry standard for dependable, cost-effective solar tracking.
