Patrice Sanders, CEO of Sander’s Studios (New Haven, CT) is the first of five guest photographers for People Invovled in Motivating Our Students Higher (PIMOSH) Summer Intensive Arts Education & Technology Institute (SIAETI) On Monday June 30, 2014 (10:00AM) at John Martinez School 100 James Street in New Haven.
Some photographers simply snap pictures, while others look for specific shots, but a small few can actually teach about the picture taking process, and that's what makes this Monday so special. Ms. Sanders takes on some extremely talented kids, where she is donating not only her time and expertise, but her passion for the lens with students who may not otherwise get this kind of opportunity.
“I fell in love with photography at the age of 12, but they wouldn’t allow girls to take photography class at that time. When I was 17, my little sister was dying and I begged my mother for film to take pictures of her. That was on Tuesday – she died that Thursday (2 days later)!”
From that moment, Ms. Sanders has walked around with any kind of camera she could get her hands on, from disposable, to a little 35mm Cannon she got for Christmas. Her first job at age 18 was working for Sears in the photo studio. She was so good at her job, she reports a customer and his wife bought her first professional 35mm Cannon as a gift, and encouraged her to work for herself!
Sanders Studios is famous for nature and shots of children & families. Patrice really enjoys shooting folks who “feel like the camera doesn’t like them, or say they hate taking pictures.” According to her, after they see what she sees (through the lens), they are amazed and satisfied with their pictures.
Patrice & Sanders Studio absolutely are providing superb service to it’s clients, but don’t call them for funerals – NOT gonna do it! For more information on Patrice Sanders, visit and like their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/
