The previous two Summer Showdowns have not been kind to Knight including a crash very early in the laps which destroyed his car and took him out for the balance of last year’s season. Many had written him off, but he has returned with a vengeance this year, currently holding sixth place in Point Standings, he is heading into this weekend’s event strong.
The 200-lap race will pay $20,000 to the winner and $10,000 for second place as part of the $100,000+ cash and prizes, one of the largest in the Northwest. With that kind of money at stake drivers from across the United States and several Canadian provinces have preregistered. Over 60 drivers are vying for one of 36 slots for Saturday evening’s 200 lap main race. A strong contender for the checkered flag, Knight is expected to be among the top 36 qualifiers.
"2014 has been a learning year for me. We are making strides every week, getting stronger and stronger," Knight says. "I've had some of the best crew chiefs in the Northwest setting my car up, but this year I am learning the chassis and setting it up with my team. I think understanding why the car is fast is critical at this point in my racing journey in order to accomplish my goals. I have felt like I've stepped backward at times this year, but every week I know we are actually getting a lot smarter. The speed will come, wins will, too!"
"All of our sponsors are super excited about the weekend," Knights tells us, adding, "If there's any pressure to make this 36 car field (60 attempting to qualify), it's only because I want to represent those who have helped me live the race car driver’s dream." Knight’s proud sponsors include: Popeye Energy Drink, National Guard, BethNeibert.com, Tuco Industrial Design, SIR Construction, SellingSnohomish.com, Finnish Touch Detailing, Les Schwab, DeYoungInc and JZ Motorsports.
