Birding Field Guides Releases New Versions of Birdwatching Apps for Costa Rica and Panama

The first birding apps for Costa Rica and Panama are digital field guides that include photos, sounds, text, and range maps for more than 550 bird species.

SANTA BARBARA, Costa Rica - June 25, 2014 - PRLog -- San Jose, Costa Rica – Updated versions of Birding Field Guide apps for Costa Rica and Panama became available in the iTunes Store in June, 2014. These are the only apps and digital field guides completely focused on the bird species of Costa Rica and Panama.

Costa Rica has acted as a pioneer for ecotourism since the 1990s and continues to be a major destination for birders and people in search of outdoor adventure. For the past ten years, tourism has also increased in the neighboring country of Panama, especially for birdwatchers. These Central American countries are popular with birders and ecotourists because of their stable governments, and beautiful rainforests with literally hundreds of stunning bird species such as the Scarlet Macaw, the legendary Resplendent Quetzal, dozens of glittering hummingbirds, wrens, tanagers, and other exotic birds.

The latest version of the Costa Rica Birds Field Guide app has been updated with new images, information, and range maps for more than 620 species, and vocalizations for 350 species. The latest update for the Panama Birds Field Guide app includes images, text, and maps for more than 550 species, and vocalizations for 310 of those birds. In addition to easy to use search functions, some of the other new features include checklists indicating species on the apps, and easier means of searching by group.

Michael Mullin, head of programming for Birding Field Guides, expects that the new images, species accounts, and other features will facilitate bird identification in Costa Rica and Panama, and thus enhance trips to these exciting, biodiverse destinations.

He said, “The latest updates for our birding apps are meant to help both residents and visitors of these exciting countries learn more about the birds of Costa Rica and Panama. We have included more images, sounds, and other information in an easy to use format, and will continue to update our apps with additional species along with improvements to facilitate user experience”.

These apps are currently available for version 5.1.1 or higher iPod Touch, iPad, and iPhone devices, and Android devices Gingerbread (2.3.3) or higher.
