San Diego, Ca June 24, 2014:  Break for Temptations opened in the South Park community of San Diego last week. Located at 2330 30^th Street in the Rancho Buena Vista Real Estate Courtyard in a 1918 historic Spanish style bungalow, the shop features an eclectic mix of old, new and delicious merchandise.

Owned and operated by retail veteran Brenda Leavy, Break for Temptations is a rebirth of an antique and pastry shop she owned nearly 20 years ago in the Los Angeles area, with a twist or two. “In the years since closing the first BFT location I became a bartender, acquired a Chocolatier certificate and worked for a legendary lingerie retailer. Somehow all those elements came together to create this fun new gift shop idea. When I decided to make the jump into store ownership again, I began walking San Diego neighborhoods and stumbled upon South Park. A true gem of a community, known for its support of independent stores, it seemed like the perfect fit.” There weren’t any available spaces at the time so Brenda reached out to Rancho Buena Vista Real Estate for help. Sally Schoeffel, the owner and long-time South Park supporter, offered a solution and consolidated her own offices down to free up the bungalow for Break for Temptations. “It is amazing that they offered to do this, I am so grateful and happy to be here as the space is perfect for this type of business.”

Walking through the gate and into the building, you enter the living area which is filled with vintage collectibles, furniture, some handmade goods & home decor. The dining room, with its built in Craftsman style hutch and buffet, is loaded with more vintage goodies and bags of local Praline Patisserie’s Craft Beer Nuts. Carry on through the kitchen and alcove area and not only will you find more collectibles and vintage jewelry, but also begin to see more handmade and new goods, including the #1 selling Lecol’s Beer Soap. At the back of the house you enter the Master Bedroom,  known as the “Girl’s Night In” room. Here you will find pajamas from local designer PajamaSutra, cocktail mixers, liquor infused chocolates and vintage games. Vintage inspired pajamas are currently being designed and will be in the shop soon.

A Grand Opening celebration is planned to run concurrently with the South Park Summer Walkabout on July 26. Refreshments, samples, swag bags and more will be available from 6 – 10pm.
