TAMPA, Fla. - June 25, 2014 - PRLog -- Haiti Recovery & Development Company (HR&DC), a Tampa, Florida company whose mantra is “Dignity for the dead, hope and opportunity for the living,” today announced that April Tam will join the company as Senior Vice President of Concessional Finance and Global Partnerships. Currently an Executive Director in derivative sales in the Equity Division at Morgan Stanley, Ms. Tam’s role with HR&DC will be to lead the company’s external finance initiatives and global partnership developments, and will report to CEO Jim Lange. Additionally, April will spearhead company efforts addressing gender issues and the empowerment of women in Haiti.

"In the immediate aftermath of Haiti's 2010 earthquake, I founded Haiti Recovery and Development Company with the goals of providing "dignity for the dead and hope and opportunity for the living,"   said Jim Lange, CEO of HR&DC.  "Haiti is a challenging environment with a history of foreign intervention and abuse.  As a result, each member of HR&DC has been handpicked for their ability to learn, collaborate and/or lead as the situation dictates.  The latest member to cross this threshold and to join our executive ranks is Ms. April Tam.  Ms. Tam has been selected by me to be HR&DC's Senior Vice President of Concessional Finance and Global Partnerships.  April possesses boundless intellect, unwavering morale fortitude and selfless determination to respectfully assist those in desperate situations.  She epitomizes what I seek in a colleague and I am honored to have her join our team."

Upon her appointment, April said “I couldn’t be more excited and moved by what HR&DC is doing for Haiti and that I get to be a part of it! I’ve felt for a while that I want to fight for the Haitian people, but as a young person having limited connection in Haiti I didn’t realize I could think much ‘larger scale’ than the orphanage I was serving. HR&DC and Jim gave me the opportunity to think even bigger and most importantly serve even more Haitians. I really admire HR&DC’s selflessness, energy and tenacity. I am so incredibly honored to be part of this organization and be with like-minded people who want to see justice be restored.”

About April Tam

April received her bachelor’s at MIT in 2005 and her MBA at Columbia in 2009. She joined Morgan Stanley in 2005 out of undergrad, was promoted to VP in 2009 and is currently an Executive Director in derivative sales- trading in the Equity Division. Her ‘other life’ outside of Wall Street consists of being part of the vibrant community at Redeemer, leading & hosting various community groups and living life in hopefully a generous and adventurous way. Over the past few years, she has served at orphanages in South Africa and Haiti, often bringing friends from work or church to experience the beauty of the Haitian community she came across in the Northwest region. These experiences from overseas have planted a deep seed in her to be a voice for the poor and fight for justice while leveraging her Wall Street life where resources to make a difference are found abundantly. Her goal is to connect her two worlds and use these assets (physical and social) to organically create a ripple effect allowing more people to be involved in creating jobs for the poor. She strongly believes in giving a hands up in addition to hands out which she believes is one of the main missions and beautiful character of HRDC.
