About the Scholarship Recipients Roberto M. —2014 Great Futures Scholarship Recipient Roberto is a recent graduate from Seaside High school. He has been a Club member for 9 years. He plans on using his Great Futures Scholarship to pursue a Business Degree at California State University Monterey Bay this Fall. His ultimate goal is to open up his own restaurant to share his interest in cultural food with others. Natasha G.—2014 Give Back Brands Scholarship Recipient Natasha is a sixteen-year- Jessica V. —2014 Rotary Club of Seaside—Barbara Ann Hawkins Memorial Scholarship Recipient Jessica is the current Seaside Clubhouse Youth of the Year and a junior at Seaside High School. She has been a Club member for the past 2 years. She plans to use the Barbara Ann Hawkins Memorial Scholarship to help her get her degree in Early Childhood Education. She aspires to become an elementary school teacher. Michael V.—2014 Marilyn Kirby Scholarship Recipient Michael is a Club alum. His love of basketball started as a young boy at the Club and has translated into a career as a coach and mentor to many of our Club members. The Marilyn Kirby Scholarship will help Michael towards finishing his degree at California State University Monterey Bay. Naomi D.—2014 Club Blue Enrichment Scholarship Recipient Naomi is a sixteen-year- Alexus S. —2014 Club Blue Enrichment Scholarship Recipient Alexus is an incoming freshman at Seaside High School. She is a fourteen-year- # # # About Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC) has played an integral role in the community for over 45 years. BGCMC provides a safe haven for over 800 children and teens a day, offering programs that focus on Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character & Leadership. BGCMC operates Clubhouses in Seaside and Salinas, extension sites at El Sausal and La Paz Middle Schools, and a site at the CHISPA Sea Garden Community in Castroville. Nearly 90% of the total budget comes from generous individuals, corporations and foundations. The Clubs are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. during summer and school breaks, and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. when school is in session.
