The development of this Debian 7 / KDE based Linux operating system has been fast-tracked for release July 14. Much of the testing and development was done during the development of Gigastrand OS 1.0 allowing this development cycle to be shortened.
Gigastrand is currently taking pre-orders for 2.0 retail boxes at its store. Those who order early will get the physical disc nearly 2 weeks before it will be available for download.
"Before the release of 1.0, we had 2 development lines," Gigastrand Founder and CEO, Josh Tordsen explains. "What eventually became 1.0 was further along so we finished that and released it. We still had this other distro that was half-finished. So, we got some development dollars together and completed it. I look at 2.0 as the software 1.0 aspired to be."
Gigastrand will continue to support 1.0 users for the foreseeable future and 1.0 will continue to be available for download and purchase on the Gigastrand site. To help with that committment, Gigastrand is releasing Gigastrand OS 1.2 - a minor revision to the 1.0 release. This version is available in retail box at www.gigastrand.biz right now and will be available for download July 1st.
