Follow on Google News | Pressler, Vietnam Combat Veteran, Seeks Immediate, Lock, Stock, And Barrel Withdrawal From IraqFormer senator, an Independent candidate for South Dakota Senate seat, is back in politics.
“I strongly disagree with my friend President Obama’s decision to send more American personnel back into Iraq. In my two tours of combat duty in Vietnam, I saw with my own eyes how dragging on the war after our decision to depart cost several hundred American lives unnecessarily." Pressler continued, "The Obama administration also has made substantial new aid commitments to Iraq. We are spending huge amounts in foreign aid, which should be spent back home on education and other matters. We must reduce the federal deficit, and our expansion of this war will mean we will spend another $100-$200 billion in unnecessary foreign military spending." “We should have learned by now that we cannot solve other countries’ civil wars. The Iraqis must resolve this conflict themselves, or it will never end. Foreign interference cannot solve the problems that now face Iraq. Our men and women in Iraq will now serve only to protect a corrupt prime minister and government, prolonging the conflict and dragging more American troops into harm’s way.” “If I were in the US Senate today, I would sponsor a resolution calling for our immediate, total military withdrawal from Iraq. One of my criteria for joining either the Republican or Democratic caucus in Washington this fall will be an assurance that I can get an up-or-down vote on complete withdrawal. We should immediately withdraw lock, stock, and barrel from Iraq.” Details: www.larrypressler.com End
