PRLog - Jun. 20, 2014 - Saint Monica University (SMU): The American International University today announced that Mr. Linus Enobi Akepe has been named a pioneer Fellow of the International Institute of Certified Forensic Investigation Professionals (IICFIP). Mr. Akepe is a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) student in the School of Business and Public Policy at SMU, where he specializes in Forensic Accounting.

“I feel honored to receive this fellowship from IICFIP and I think the quality of education that I have received from SMU has helped me in my professional accomplishments,” said Mr. Linus Enobi Akepe, who is currently working on his research proposal that will focus on the use of forensics to fight financial crimes in both the public and private sectors in Cameroon. “SMU provides an education that is designed to help students create their own jobs or become effective employees. I can attest to the effectiveness of such an approach and that explains why I played a major role in establishing a partnership between SMU and IICFIP. Moreover, SMU emphasizes leadership traits such as integrity, discipline, creative thinking, industriousness, customer service, entrepreneurship etc… These are some of the qualities that are valued by forensic investigators.”

Mr. Akepe was honored by the US-based IICFIP on April 24, 2014, during the IICFIP international conference that held in Nairobi, Kenya. He was selected for his attainments in the profession of forensic investigation and auditing, as well as for the esteem in which he is held by the members of the profession. He is one of the founding members of IICFIP and the Director of IICFIP Africa, where he is responsible for the management of the institute’s activities throughout the continent.

“Mr. Akepe is a very industrious and well-focused gentleman, and we are very proud of his achievements,” said Professor Januarius Jingwa (JJ) Asongu, President and Chief Executive Officer of SMU. “He is a pioneer in many things, including the fact that he was the pioneer president of the SMU Student Government Association and continues to play an active role in the growth of our university. The task of introducing a new organization into an entire continent isn’t an easy one and the fact that Mr. Linus Akepe was given this responsibility speaks of his leadership abilities.”

The IICFIP Fellowship is awarded to outstanding individuals with demonstrated achievements in fraud examination or similar anti-fraud professional activities. The 2014 awards were given to forensic experts from Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates and the United States of America. Apart from Mr. Linus Enobi Akepe from Cameroon, others from the country included Mr. Michael Forzeh Fossung, General Manager of Kosan Crisplant, Cameroon, and Mr. Michael Langha Ngwa of WWF Cameroon. They were honored specifically for taking the primary responsibility in promoting forensic investigation skills in Cameroon. They are currently working with IICFIP Global to create and implement an Anti-Corruption Report Card System to determine and develop "Islands of Integrity," nationwide; and to also create a Reward System for “clean” or non-corrupt leaders, businesses, and government agencies.

Saint Monica University is committed to the promotion of forensic accounting skills in the country. The university has an agreement with IICFIP to train forensic accountants and is the only Cameroonian university approved by the US-based Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) to offer a course on forensic accounting. The SMU library has one of the best equipped fraud or forensic accounting resources of any library in the country.
