ASHBURN, Va. - June 19, 2014 - PRLog -- The IJIS Institute (http://www.ijis.org)—a nonprofit organization that focuses on mission-critical information sharing and safeguarding for justice, public safety, and homeland security —is pleased to announce the release of a white paper on National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) Version Migration. The white paper was commissioned by the IJIS Institute Technical Advisory Committee (I-TAC). The white paper is available online at http://www.ijis.org/docs/whitepaper_ITAC_NIEM_versionmigr_20140602.pdf.

The NIEM Version Migration white paper provides a summary of the ways organizations typically version and respond to changes in the National Information Exchange Model evolving over time and based on changing business needs.

Joel Byford, the white paper’s primary author, is the chair of the IJIS Institute I-TAC Committee and a justice and public safety architect at Microsoft. He is also a technology strategy consultant who has been working in the field of public safety and justice for over 12 years. Byford worked in the software industry on a product team using eXtensible Markup Language (XML) and web service technologies to facilitate information sharing; returning to the public sector, he leveraged what he learned in the industry to begin leading public safety agencies in planning and implementing web services to break down information sharing barriers between agencies.

The I-TAC develops policies, programs, and training or educational materials in support of the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs (OJP) information sharing initiatives that can be adopted or disseminated by industry as a whole.
