Visual Answers Opticians Loughborough To Focus On Falls

With 1 in 3 people over the age of 65 likely to fall, poor vision can be a factor. Loughborough optometrist Mohammed Bhojani of Visual Answers summarises common eye related factors that increase the likelihood of falling among the most vulnerable.

PRLog - Jun. 18, 2014 - LOUGHBOROUGH, U.K. -- The 3 main groups to be most aware of aware of are:

1)  'Patients who suffer from Macular Degenration (AMD). They are at significantly greater risk of falling due to loss of central vision'.

2) 'Patients who wear bifocals and varifocal lenses and are not used to them'.

3) 'Patients who have a field loss in one or both eyes'.

In all cases, small changes in lifestyle, frames and lens design, lighting plus simple advice from an optometrist can significantly reduce the risk of a fall', said Mohammed.

There are now also 'local falls teams' that can help carry out risk assessments and give more specific advice too'.
