By: Dan's Auto Repair Dan Fluker Sr., founded the company in 1975, with his wife Lily and her brother Johnnie Brown. Although Dan Sr. passed away in 2006, second and third generation family members carry on the tradition of excellence, friendliness and exemplary customer service. Dan’s Auto Repair handles everything from minor dings and scratches to major frame straightening and restoration, towing service, and vehicle storage. Dan’s is a state-of-the- Danzivor Fluker, the founder’s son and the current CEO, said the two new services compliment their wide range of body work and collision repair services. The reason the shop diversified was to help regain revenue lost during the recession. “As with other businesses, the financial downturn affected us too,” Danzivor said. “Since nearly 20 percent of our business is self-pay, the unemployment and uncertainty of the financial downturn meant fewer car owners were getting new paint jobs or little dings repaired. We decided to add U-Haul and auto detailing to get “foot traffic” that would produce new customers for the body work side of the business.” The strategy worked. Danzivor said adding the new services and the strengthening of the economy resulted in significant growth during Feb and March of this year – the best in several years. Family Owned, Family Grown A true family affair, Dan’s full-time staff is comprised of: CEO Danzivor, his son Daniel, Danzivor’s Uncle Johnnie (one of the original founders) and his son Nicholas. Danzivor’s sister Sherry runs the U-Haul rental service. Danzivor said the key to a successful family business is “respect” for all family members – from the oldest to the youngest. He makes sure that when business is good, profits “trickle down” to all the employees, in a kind of informal profit sharing program he’s always employed. He is also working with his financial planner to soon offer a retirement program for Dan’s employees. “We’re a family that really enjoys working together, and we also truly enjoy what we do,” Danzivor explained. Unlike many family owned companies, there are no succession worries at Dan’s Auto Repair. “I’ve been working at Dan’s Auto Repair all my life, but now I appreciate being a part of a family business,” said Daniel, 26. “I want to see this business continue to thrive, and I would like to one day be in charge.” Danzivor said their motto, “A Class Above the Rest,” sums up what the business strives to be every day. “We’re known for providing customers with superior workmanship at a reasonable price. There are body shops all over town, but what sets us apart is our attention to detail and our emphasis on customer service,” he said.
