The gala event, also served as the unveiling of their first pieces created by an American designer since Vladimir Kagan in 2000. “The Traveler: An American Chair” by Steven Burks was showcased with an elaborate “forest” vignette as you first entered the showroom. In fact, both levels of the 30,000-sq.-ft. showroom were bedecked for the event, which included live jazz on the street level, a 1970s “disco” with a DJ and vintage nightclub vignette on the lower level (in keeping with the showroom’s 1974 opening) and a brigade of servers passing hors d’oeuvres and champagne. Among the designs getting a lot of attention were the new Mah Jong Collection – multi-piece, modular sofas with an explosion of colors and patterns, and a number of custom fabrics designed exclusively for Roche Bobois by acclaimed couturier Jean Paul Gaultier.
Among the VIP guests were company principals from Roche Bobois’ worldwide headquarters in Paris including CEO Gilles Bonan; Nicolas Roche, creative director; and Martin Gleize, director of international development.
Bonan stated, “Creativity and diversity are two of the cornerstones of our success around the world. To that we add value, superior quality and a commitment to providing the utmost in custom services and design. None of that would be possible without the collaborative efforts of everyone involved in the process.”
Nicolas Roche added, “Roche Bobois is the only company of its kind that introduces two brand new collections of furniture, lighting and accessories each year. Les Contemporains is highly stylized, modern and sleek while Nouveaux Classiques combines ‘old-world’
Glieze and Communications Director U.S. Julien Bigan summed up the evening, “This celebration exuded the excitement and passion we feel for our company. Our constant search for design innovation and excellence is equaled only by our commitment to our customers, the interior design industry and the Roche Bobois brand around the world.”
