Several hundreds of persons meet at the beach of Malvarrosa to spark their bonfires and to wish for something, together with their friends and family. Thus it is a perfect opportunity for students of a Spanish language school to get to know the tradition while learning Spanish together with their friends and classmates.
The ritual has its beginning with the sunset while the tradition says to take a bath in the sea and to desire something. It indicates that you will receive health all over the year and that it will eliminate negative energy. After that the bonfires will be inflamed and the beach of Malvarrosa converts into a scenario of light and fire. Almost everybody begins to prepare their dinner which will be cooked over the blaze. Some will accompany the firing of the bonfires with sangria or cold beer which is very typical, too.
But it is to midnight where the pupils who make a Spanish course in Valencia can discover the ceremony in his maximum expression. At 12 o’clock in the night everybody approaches to the bank to rest their feet or to jump into the waves while speaking out their wishes. Afterwards just stay back the blaze of the bonfires and now it is the turn of the brave to jump over the blaze. The tradition says that those who resolve the blaze will receive protection the whole year.
Because of that Valencia is the perfect place for the magic night, the night of San Juan which converts to a perfect opportunity for pupils of the Spanish Language School Costa de Valencia discovering the culture of the country while celebrating with the Valencian people and learning the language at the same time.
