Canadian Author Details Tragedy of Millennials in Debut Book

TORONTO - June 18, 2014 - PRLog -- With the release of his debut novella “Thoughts of a Fractured Soul,” author Kern Carter brings to light many of the difficulties Millennials are confronted with in today’s “now” generation. “It’s like 25 is the new middle-aged,” Carter remarks. “There’s an enormous amount of pressure for young people to be successful immediately and that can lead to poor decision making. Part of it is certainly self-inflicted, but much of that pressure comes from the culture that’s been created by society’s incessant need for immediacy.”

Thoughts of a Fractured Soul is a fictional tale told through a Millennial voice that reflects on the crucial points of the main character’s life that have lead him down a path of stagnation. “I titled the story this way because it’s literally told in disjointed, reflective thoughts. There is no beginning or ending point, no linear pattern or anything like that. The story touches on key moments that together paint a picture of what life looks like when a Millennial is battling with ambition, expectation, and the struggle to be independent.”

Carter admits the motivation for the story came from observing people throughout his entire life. People with gifts and abilities to really be special but through their own actions don’t amount to anything. “Unrealized potential,” Kern continues. “Knowing that you can accomplish something great, that you can be something great and just not having the passion or the perseverance to pursue that belief. To me there’s no bigger personal tragedy on this earth.”

Thoughts of a Fractured Soul took Carter six years to complete between creating the story and having it published. He says being an author has been a life long goal and that he is focused now on having his story heard. “This is only the beginning,” Kern points out. “My goal has and always will be to touch the world with my words. Until that goal is realized I will never be satisfied.”

Thoughts of a Fractured Soul was published through Friesenpress and is available in all formats on Amazon, Chapters/Indigo, and Barnes and Noble. It can be purchased at www.kerncarter.com
