UTRECHT, Netherlands - June 18, 2014 - PRLog -- Today the Maker movement has reached the top: presenting selected projects to the President, on the White House Maker Faire ( http://www.makerfaire.com/white-house ).

Mr. Obama will surely be interested in a practical product that will end White House bathroom wars: DeskProto presents a custom Toothbrush holder, featuring a named position for each member of the presidential family. This will stop alleged regular fights about exchanged brushes. It is a typical Maker project: when you cannot buy the exact part that you need, simply Make it !

The brush-holder has been designed using a 3D CAD program (Rhino), and then has been made on a desktop computer-controlled (CNC) milling machine, using the DeskProto 3D CAM software.

"Currently 3D printers are in the spotlight for Makers," says Lex Lennings, DeskProto sales manager "however, for many applications using a CNC machine offers a better solution."

The lowcost filament 3D printers that are used by hobbyists are not suited for this application:
- for hygienic reasons: such 3D printed part is porous and thus cannot be kept properly clean.
- the holder's pins will easily break when printed in layers (depending on their orientation in the printer).

The alternative making technology of CNC machining is perfectly suited for this application:
an appropriate material (food-safe, easy to be cleaned, strong) can be used, and the surface can be machined perfectly smooth so dirt won't stand a chance. Lowcost CNC machines are available from many sources: for any hobbyist user. A special hobby license for DeskProto is available as well.
