Acoustic Guitar Tales Like No Other: Loopy Loops

Take a trip with this fresh sounding and lively mix of spontaneous acoustic guitar tales which are so not main stream. What makes it even more unique is that this collection of unrehearsed, on-the-fly loop jams was recorded in one session, one take.

SEATTLE - June 17, 2014 - PRLog -- The fascinating thing about loop jams is that the more you listen, the more you hear.

What are loop jams?

First of all, for those of you who may not be familiar with “loop jams,” this is what they're all about:  While playing guitar or any other instrument, the loop pedal allows you to record as long of a segment as you want.  The trick is to start and stop the recording with the right timing because the recording will keep playing and "looping" over and over.  While it's looping, you can continue to play another part, "jamming" to the loop.  That, in itself, is an awesome way to just play around and try new things.  But then you can again record what you're playing and overlay it to the first loop.  When you hit the stop button, both parts continue to loop and you can then layer a third part.  Even more parts can be added, endlessly layering the loops.  It’s the seriously most fun music toy!

How did the album come about?

"This album really just started out one rainy Saturday afternoon in March as a typical jam session using my Breedlove acoustic guitar and the loop pedal.  What's funny is that I hadn’t touched any six string guitar in about four months.  Sad actually, but after decades of playing guitar quite often all I was doing whenever I picked up a guitar was just to make sure I wasn't losing any tricks.  And the last time I'd played was performing a similar type impromptu loop session on a Wonderful Wusical Wednesday morning at my daughter’s elementary school.  Every Wednesday they have different musicians come in and play in the auditorium for a half hour before school starts, while the kids are arriving.  There is usually a pretty good crowd.  I signed up one week and went and had some fun.  Kids and teachers seemed to like it.

So, several months later on the rainy Saturday the idea struck me to go ahead and record while I’m messing around with the loop jams.  So I ran the loop pedal output to my computer and fired up my recording software.  Without rehearsing a lick, I hit the record button and just started jamming, playing whatever came to mind.  No effects of any kind were used in the initial recordings.  I ended up with six, fifteen minute long segments containing a whole mess of loop jams.  It was actually the easiest recording session I’d ever done, because there was no rehearsal and no pressure.  It was all just for fun!"

Polished?  No way.

A little light editing was done on each song only to shorten it or cut out any uninvited obvious blunders.  A single sound effect (such as reverb, chorus, flange, or phase) was carefully chosen and added to each song to embellish its essence.  Then each jam was named by first impression.  That’s all.  The final result is unrehearsed and virtually on-the-fly.  Though not perfect or polished, the songs are very listenable.  It's what loop jams are all about!  Please enjoy this collection, and appreciate the simplicity of how this album was created.
