Because of its strategic location, Spanaway homesteads were used as temporary military outposts during two wars. Sensel drew upon the collections of universities, museums, and pioneer descendants to illustrate Spanaway’s story. These images are accompanied by captions knowledgably written offer a wide range pictorial view of the community.

The book includes eight chapters covering Spanueh Station, Claims and conflict, Roads and Rails, Growth and Prosperity, The War Years, Postwar Commerce, Regional Treasure, and Era of Change.  Highlighting the many changes the community of Spanaway has undergone throughout time, the book preserves the history for future generations.
