2014 Steel City Pet Expo Ends Adopt-A-Cat Month with a Kitty-Celebration!

PITTSBURGH - June 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Pittsburgh-area animal-lovers should prepare themselves (and their pet!) for the 2014 Steel City Pet Expo. As Adopt-a-Cat Month comes to a close, the expo will feature some very special rescue-groups and animal celebrities!

Attendees should familiarize themselves with La Princesa, AKA Smoochie, a paraplegic cat from Youngstown, Ohio. This adorable cat, who can now cart herself around in her very own wheelchair due to donations from her followers, was slammed in a dresser when she was just six-weeks-old. After receiving some love and care from West Side Cats, she now has a Facebook page (The Smoochie Chronicles) dedicated to her progress and her life as a Spokes-cat. With over one thousand followers (and growing!), Smoochie is on the rise as one of the latest internet-famous cats.

“We are the only No-Kill Shelter in Youngstown, OH,” says Kimm Koocher of West Side Cats, “We specialize in Special-Needs Cats, like Smoochie.” Koocher will be with Smoochie at the 2014 Steel City Pet Expo. West Side Cats not only rescues cats that they find on their own, but they also seek out other local shelters so that they can rescue as many cats as possible from euthanasia. They work with special-needs cats most often because they are typically the first cats to be euthanized. Attendees will get the opportunity to meet Smoochie and interact with West Side Cats, so that they can find out ways they can help this special shelter.

Also at the 2014 Steel City Pet Expo will be FosterCats, Inc. FosterCats is a small, all-volunteer rescue that operates in the Tri-County area of Pittsburgh. The organization does not have a shelter, so they operate out of Foster Homes, bringing cats to the local Petsmarts. “Our Primary goal is to get more name-recognition,” says Alexa Howald of FosterCat, “And to get more Foster Parents for our cats, because the more foster parents we have, the more care and attention we have for each of these kitties.”

The Steel City Pet Expo will also feature opportunities for fan photos and autographs with both Shorty Rossi (Animal Planet’s “Pit Boss” & “America’s Cutest Pets”) and Celebrity Dog Trainer Harrison Forbes (“Good Morning America” and the “Today Show”), along with more than 70 exhibitors, live entertainment and demonstrations, and a Petfinder.com mega-adoption area with more than 150 rescue pets available for adoption. Low-cost immunizations, discounted microchipping and free nail trims will also be available for all the furry friends who need them.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 28^th, 2014 from 10am to 6pm, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. This free, indoor and air-conditioned event is expected to attract more than 12,000 attendees along with their furry, feathered and reptilian pals who are looking to enjoy a new and one-of-a-kind experience where all pets can enjoy a fun day out with their pet parent(s). All well-behaved pets are welcome, as long as they’re on a fixed lead (or in a carrier) and have proof of age-appropriate rabies vaccines.
