RZD Logistics team developed several alternative logistics schemes for final consignee in Europe. As a result the company selected the most efficient logistics scheme for transportation by using universal rolling stock used both on broad 1520 mm gauge and sea ferry. Unique loading and fastening scheme developed for delivery of 60m rail cargo coupled to five universal platforms was timely coordinated with JSC Russian Railways divisions.
In cooperation with EVRAZ ZSMK RZDL team loaded extra oversize cargo on the platforms and successfully carried out safety assessment procedure. After testing the coupled gear high value cargo was transported through the territory of Russia to the port of Ust-Luga for further transshipment to rail ferry operated by Black Sea Ferry, RZD Logistics subsidiary. Delivery of cargo from Novokuznetsk to the port of Ust-Luga at a distance of 4,200 km was carried out within nine days.
Company loaded the cargo in the shortest time in spite of the technical peculiarities faced while knurling the coupled gear to the rail ferry. From the port of Ust-Luga cargo was promptly shipped to the port of Sassnitz in Germany, where RZD Logistics organized unique long load transshipment to the standard European gauge wagons in cooperation with the European partners. The company used lifting beams, which were brought to the port from the other regions of Germany, in order to avoid damage and bending of the thin and long cargo while handling. In less than two days rails were delivered to the final consignee in Meckelfeld-Seevetal, Germany.
The rails delivered by RZD Logistics will be tested in the rail welding plant of Deutsche Bahn in Seevetal in accordance with the requirements of the German side. In the future successful testing of the pilot run will allow to carry out large-scale shipments of rail cargo from Russia to Germany.
