Cabaret Singer Mary Carrick to Perform in Cedar Rapids, IA at Opus Concert Café

OMAHA, Neb. - June 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Cabaret singer Mary Carrick, an Iowa native, will offer two performances June 20-21 at Opus Concert Café located at 119 Third Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids.  The engagement comes on the heels of her newly released solo album, “Let’s Fly”, a collection of reimagined classic and contemporary songs, ranging from great American standards, jazz, musical theater, country, and more.  Tickets are $15 and may be purchased by calling Orchestra Iowa at (319) 366-8206 or online at www.orchestraiowa.org.

Carrick will perform with her cabaret partner, pianist Todd Brooks.   This award-winning duo has been captivating audiences across the Midwest with their dynamic cabaret shows that combine exquisite vocals, unique interpretations, delightful patter, and theatrical flair.  Their playlist will feature songs from Carrick’s album and other selections, including music by Cole Porter, Fats Waller, Hank Williams, Stephen Schwartz, John Bucchino, Stephen Sondheim, Jason Robert Brown, and other great songwriters.

Carrick aid listeners can expect a program with similar variety as her album, which was released on May 13 followed by a live launch performance in Omaha.  “From the beginning I wanted to offer a recording that represents me as a singer – encompassing my broad tastes in music and my passion for storytelling through song.  I approach my live performances in very much the same way – authentically and with music that spans many genres.”

A multi-faceted and versatile performer, Carrick is equally at home with a wide spectrum of musical styles and as a stage actor. She’s known for her impressive vocal versatility that delivers everything from intimate, shimmering, and lyrical sounds to a powerhouse belt along with her ability to truthfully interpret a song, connect with audiences and command the stage.

She’s performed as a soloist at Omaha’s Holland Performing Arts Center and with arts organizations including Opera Omaha, the Omaha Symphony, and Rose Theater, one of the largest professional children’s theaters in the country.  She made her Chicago cabaret debut in 2012 at Davenport’s Piano Bar & Cabaret with her one-woman show, On My Way. She tours numerous cabaret shows regionally.

Carrick is the winner of the 2013 Omaha Entertainment & Arts Award (OEA) for Best Supporting Actress-Musical, and has received other awards and nominations for her work.  She is a touring artist with the Nebraska Arts Council and often conducts education programs for students in the communities where she performs.
