PHILADELPHIA - June 16, 2014 - PRLog -- In 2013, 132 young people were housed through Valley Youth House programs in Philadelphia. Youth are assisted with finding apartments, signing leases, and developing self-sufficiency skills. Says Victoria K. Flaville, Senior Vice President at the Connelly Foundation: “Many young adults age out of the foster care system without a feasible housing option, and [Valley Youth House] programs enable them to find their footing in the adult world without sacrificing their dignity or responsibility.”

In addition to housing support, youth work with their Life Skills Counselor to complete an individualized plan that identifies manageable employment, education, and life skills goals. Upon successfully exiting the program, youth become self-sufficient and are able to maintain permanent stable housing.  91% of young adults remained in stable housing after completing the VYH Independent Living program in 2013.

VYH was previously awarded a grant from the Connelly Foundation in 2012. Additional information on Valley Youth House programs can be found at www.vyhphila.org.
