University of Saint Katherine Announces New Distance Learning Graduate Programs

The new Graduate School will offer the Master of Arts (MA) in Orthodox Christian Studies and MA in Global Urban and Intercultural Studies. Both of these academic programs will be offered on-line through a distance learning format.

PRLog - Jun. 16, 2014 - SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- Saint Katherine College is now part of the University of Saint Katherine (USK). This is the next step in the ongoing development of the non-profit institution; the board of trustees voted unanimously in 2013 to expand offerings to include graduate programs. The new Graduate School will offer the Master of Arts (MA) in Orthodox Christian Studies and MA in Global Urban and Intercultural Studies. Both of these academic programs will be offered on-line through a distance learning format thereby including international participation.

The 24 semester-hour MA in Orthodox Christian Studies will include four sequential modules: Orthodox Christianity (4); New Testament (4); Interdisciplinary and Global Orthodox Christian Thought (4); and, Thesis (12). And the 24 semester-hour MA in Global Urban and Intercultural Studies will include modules in Orthodox Christianity (4); Emerging and Global Culture (4); Intercultural Communication (4);, and Thesis (12). Formal lectures, readings, examinations and writing assignments will be coordinated by instructors based at the University. The faculty is comprised of experienced academics with terminal degrees from leading institutions.

The modular design of the program is specifically intended to serve the needs of individuals who are unable to travel to the campus. The course modules and the entire degree program may be completed by working adults and students at other institutions. The modules are supplemented by associated conferences and symposia in San Diego and other cities. Experiential learning also serves as a learning component in the didactic portions of the curriculum. Students complete their degree by writing a 15,000 word master’s thesis on a topic of their choice and in collaboration with a faculty advisor.

Both degrees may be earned exclusively on-line or in residence at the San Marcos, California campus. Tuition is $350/semester hour and the degrees are intended to be completed in four semesters over two years. However, students will have up to four years to complete the degree requirements. Financial aid is not available from the University for these programs.

Students who are offered admission to the MA programs will demonstrate a desire to think Christianly from an Orthodox Christian understanding, personal integrity, social concern, and academic ability. The GRE is not required, and students with undergraduate degrees in any major field will be considered for admission. Interested students should contact the Admissions Office for further information and an application. Inquiries should be directed to Ms. Marina Karavokiris at 760 943 1107 or mkaravokiris@stkath.org. Applications are being processed for a September 2014 start.
