Kids ‘R’ Kids RTP Launches Innovative Part-Day Kindergarten Readiness Program For 3 & 4 Year Olds

DURHAM, N.C. - June 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Durham NC - Kids ‘R’ Kids RTP is proud to announce the launch of its new part-day pre-K program designed around the needs of stay-at-home parents who do not choose to send their children to a full-time preschool or other child care facility.

Our inspiration for Camp Kindergarten came from a stay-at-home mother,” said Kids ‘R’ Kids RTP’s on-site owner Lynn Rasmussen. “She did not need a full-day preschool – just a kindergarten preparation program. She was not satisfied with the ‘Mothers Morning Out’ program at her church because it did not offer the rigorous academic standards or structured school environment she was searching for. She asked us if we would be willing to start a part-time program… and so we did!”

“Imagine: a five-year old walks in to elementary school on the first day of kindergarten,” Curriculum Director, Neeti Sobti added, “Can you imagine how intimidating it can be? A big building. New rules. Technology. So many strangers. We wanted to make that transition easier – for parents and their children. We asked ourselves, could we meet this mother’s needs in a way that met our standards of academic excellence?"

Kids 'R' Kids RTP analyzed the feedback from elementary school teachers and principals regarding graduates of its popular full-day program. The team then created a part-day program that would focus on the aspects that were most appreciated by parents, faculty and school administrators.

For example, in the part-day program, children will learn to:

- Put their things away.

- Line up to go to the Kids Café or the playground.

- Share during our Friday ‘Show and Share’ sessions.

- Wait their turn.

- Use Smart Board technology (used in Wake and Durham County schools).

- Submit homework on time.

- Put on their coats.

- Use the bathroom independently.

- Make friends with other children.

- Handle inter-personal conflict.

- Play ‘line leader’ and take responsibility during Circle Time.

- Navigate our building

The part-time preschool program will run from 9:30 a.m. till 1 p.m. (Monday through Friday) and include a mid-morning snack.
