Follow on Google News | The New Milpro Air Seat Takes The Shocks Out Of Ribs And PowerboatsTwo new high performance shock mitigation seats have been created by the research and development department of Zodiac Milpro for use on RIBs (Rigid Inflatable Boats) and powerboats.
By: Zodiac Milpro With the unrivalled 228 mm travel of its shock-mitigating system the Milpro Air seat works with a lower pressure than other mitigation seats. This provides a greater level of comfort, especially for lighter weight users. At 60 psi these provide greater cushioning and comfort than is possible from seats using the industry standard 70 psi for which reduced travel is necessary. A new design of seat cushion also provides valuable ergonomics during long rides seated or standing up, as well as the backrest design which offers protection from lateral shocks. The design of the seat also allows for an exceptionally capacious 25-litre storage locker beneath it with access from the top to maximize the benefit of the storage volume. With an adjustable back cushion and the optional front handle, the user is now able to maintain a comfortable position seated or standing-up in the most extreme sea conditions, even while wearing bulky clothing. The Milpro Air Duo possesses all of the attributes of the Air but with an additional mitigated jockey seat which unfolds from behind it. The two seats share the same deck mounting and performance characteristics to reduce the space used on the deck by the system, but possess independent suspension so that passengers of widely differing weights can sit in tandem comfortably. The design is also unusual in that the jockey seat folds downwards when not in use so that it becomes unobtrusive while creating more usable deck space. Users of Zodiac Milpro’s newer RIBs will also enjoy the additional benefit provided by the seats’ compatibility with the Zodiac Milpro deck track mounting system. This enables seats, controls, weapons and other items to be quickly removed or securely relocated to meet any changes to operational requirements. Passenger and crew accommodation can be reconfigured to create additional seating or storage space and to ensure that the Zodiac Milpro RIB is able to perform to the best of its capabilities. The Milpro Air and Air duo Seats have been created as a response to the European directive 2002 which sets goals for exposure to Whole Body Vibration. Zodiac Milpro has been closely involved with the international working parties studying this problem and the Air and Air Duo seats arose from the company’s collaboration with FOX, a world leader in mitigation technology. The FOX FLOAT 3 9” travel mitigation system was chosen for incorporation within the Milpro Air and the Milpro Air Duo seat designs and they have resulted in a standard of seating that is claimed to set new performance bench marks for the marine industry.
