Imetrum’s camera based system for track and structures is on show at Rail Live

BRISTOL, U.K. - June 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Bristol, UK, June 16, 2014: Imetrum is pleased to announce that it will be showing its innovative Video Gauge Measurement System on the stand of its distributor for the rail industry, at Rail Live from 18-19 June 2014 at the rail industry test facility, Long Marston, nr Stratford-upon-Avon UK. This non-contact precision measurement video monitoring system will be demonstrated live at this interactive event and product specialists will be on hand to answer specific queries.

KOREC provides survey, mapping, machine control and construction solutions for the rail industry and became sole UK distributor for the Imetrum system in 2013. Video Gauge complements KOREC’s other products by providing a system that enables track and structural engineers to monitor a number of targets simultaneously, at high speeds, without the need to access the structure itself.

In one example application, KOREC has used Video Gauge with Network Rail to provide them with a faster track monitoring solution. Network Rail is required to monitor track after handback to check for any track displacement that may lead to voiding. This is usually carried out by placing void meters under the track. However due to Video Gauge’s ability to monitor a greater range of movement than a void meter’s alone with improved accuracy and because of the freedom Video Gauge offers to monitor anything it can “see” without time- consuming sensor installation, Network Rail decided to trial the system alongside traditional methods at two sites. Commenting on the results a spokesperson from Network Rail said: ““This was the first time we had ever seen dynamic deflection and had real-time feedback – it was superb. We now know how the track performs or deteriorates under load and I can’t understate how good this is for peace of mind. The key concern when assessing a railway line is whether it is fit for purpose – will it carry a train at the designated line speed safely? Using Video Gauge gives us a clear indication that the track isn’t deteriorating under load which is of paramount importance.”

The Imetrum Video Gauge uses pattern recognition technology, robust industrial grade cameras and the world’s most accurate image correlation algorithms to measure on live video images.
