Institute Health Management Research organise 3rd Convocation for ‘Hospital & Health Management'

BANGALORE, India - June 16, 2014 - PRLog -- 16^th June’ 2014, New Delhi: The Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) – Bangalore recently organised its 3^rd  Annual Convocation for its 3^rd Batch of AICTE Approved Post Graduate Programme in Hospital and Health Management at the Institute campus.  IIHMR is an institution dedicated to the improvement in standards of health through better management of health care and related programmes.

Dr. Usha Manjunath, Dean-Academics and Student Affairs welcomed the distinguished guests, graduating students and others.

Dr. Dhirendra Kumar, Director- IIHMR in his address said, “It’s a moment of pride for all the Students, Faculty and everyone related to IIHMR seeing IIHMR delivering a pool of talent to the health care industry in the country. Institute has an excellent state of –the-art infrastructure and pool of highly qualified and experienced faculty with corporate hospital exposure to prepare the cadre of health and hospital management professional for effective and efficient management of healthcare services. We are in the process of creating new avenues for sharing knowledge and management technology in health systems. Innovations in teaching and training will be crucial for effective and high quality health professionals. It would be our efforts to keep the advances of new technologies and knowledge and incorporate them in teaching and training.” Dr. Kumar also gave a brief introduction about the new course Post Graduate program in Health Information Technology. “Disruptive technologies of SMAC-Social Media, Mobile, Analytics & Big Data and Cloud are the new buzz words in this networked world! Transformations in healthcare in India are impacted by SMAC Technologies for business and clinical solutions”. IT platforms are being increasingly adopted by various healthcare organizations and hence, demand for skilled manpower in Health Information Technology domain is rising. Health IT professionals with expertise in information and communication systems as well as an understanding of clinical processes & guidelines, business development and management are the need of the hour. Employment opportunities in the sector are very attractive with higher growth prospectus in domestic and international (especially Middle East and USA) markets for Health IT Professionals.

Chairperson of the Convocation Brig. Dr. S.K. Puri VSM declared the Convocation open and facilitated the proceedings. He highlighted the growth of IIHMR and its role in various national and global health scenes.

Dr Thanga Prabhu, Clinical Director - Wipro GE Health Care graced the event as the Chief Guest. While delivering the Convocation address, he talked about introduction of IT in Healthcare and transforming healthcare delivery. Patient being the center of all that goes into healthcare delivery, patient safety and quality & norms that guide the services are critical to management. The graduating students of Health & Hospital Managers have a large role in fund utilization, innovative ways of improving services, collaboration of Healthcare with IT and Knowledge Management. Dr. Prabhu emphasized the importance of PHC functioning and said that Banavam PHC in Kanchipuram District of Tamil Nadu sets an exemplary benchmark for all. He wished all the graduating students for a bright and successful future.

Dr. Dinesh Agarwal Director for Health & Nutrition IPE Global Delhi was invited as the Guest of Honour, who congratulated the students for successful completion of their Post Graduate Programme in Hospital and Health Management. He has given scenario of health care services in global and Indian perspective. Dr. Agarwal said the graduating students are at a time when so many things are happening in the healthcare ecosystem and that they have many opportunities to grow in global health scene, pharma sector, IT, Health Insurance, Public Health, Hospitals and in all geographical areas-tier 1, 2, 3 cities and villages. He mentioned that since the students of this graduating batch are from 17 different states of India and they can impact so many states with their specialized knowledge, skills and enthusiasm back in their home states. He concluded that the Management Oath that the students took should be guiding each one in their professional career (respecting patient rights, human rights and doing good to the society through accountable and honest means).

The convocation ceremony was attended by various dignitaries of the Health Sector and a total of 35 students were awarded the diplomas. The ceremony was followed by luncheon for all the guests and students.

Chief Guest and Guest of Honour presented the gold medals to the toppers of both the Health Management & Hospital Management stream and conveyed his best wishes to them.
