DCH Lexus of Oxnard Awards $3000 in Scholarships to Local High School Seniors as Part of Teen Safety

OXNARD, Calif. - June 13, 2014 - PRLog -- DCH Lexus of Oxnard presented $3,000 in scholarships to 3 local senior high school students at its 15^th annual scholarship ceremony on Tuesday, May 27^th, 2014, and subsequently recognized each student in front of their communities at their respective senior awards nights ceremonies. The recent scholarship initiative brings the total investment in local students by the dealership to approximately $50,000.

“Along with being a great privilege, we recognize that driving is also an enormous responsibility. Car crashes are still the number one cause of death among teenagers, and so we are doing our best to help raise awareness about the need for everyone—beginning-drivers in particular—to focus on the road,” said George Yazbek, Vice President and General Manager at DCH Lexus of Oxnard. DCH Auto Group founded a non-profit organization, the Teen Safe Driving Foundation, to equip young drivers and their families with the tools they need to learn good driving habits. A percentage of every vehicle DCH dealerships sell is earmarked to fund teen safe driving initiatives.

To date, DCH Auto Group has donated more than $3 million towards the cause, helping to raise driving awareness in the communities it serves.

The DCH teen safety initiative asked scholarship applicants to create and submit a 15-60 second public service announcement (PSA) in audio, video, or artwork format encouraging teens to make good decisions while driving: eliminating distractions from cell phones, electronics, and passengers.

In addition to creating an original PSA scholarship, winners were selected based on financial need, service, and academic achievement.

Recipients, who each received a $1,000 scholarship, include: Rosemary Houlihan, Adolfo Camarillo High School; Mariela Trujillo, Pacifica High School; and Peter Loya, Moorpark High School.
