CANCUN, Mexico - June 13, 2014 - PRLog -- From visitors to Mexico to travelers all around the world, Krystal Resorts Cancun is doing its part to help travelers feel safe while traveling in 2014. According to the Krystal Resort Cancun Scam Prevention Team, one of the most common travel fears among vacationers is that they may fall victim to a travel scam. So in an effort to secure and protect its valued members and guests, Krystal Resort Cancun is releasing the following information:

Referring to the complaints that Krystal Resort Cancun collected from scam reports, one of the most common ways that criminals are gaining access to delicate financial information is through ATM fraud. This sort of criminal activity happens all around the world, and is not exclusive to popular vacation destinations like Cancun. The criminal will affix an object atop the ATM's card reader that looks just like a regular card reader, albeit slightly larger. When the person using the ATM machine slides their card through, everything will work as planned, and they will go about their day without a second thought.

However, because they used the affected machine, their credit card information is then stored, along with the personal identification number, to a criminal server, or them to use at a later date. The best way to avoid this scam is to double-check that wiggling the card slider to see if it comes off easily – if it does, the machine has been tampered with. Also, it is advised to only utilize ATMs that are in trusted locations like banks or resort lobbies, as it would be very difficult for a criminal to attach a scanner at these locations without anyone noticing.

The second most common concern that the Krystal Resort Cancun Scam Prevention Team sees was guests concerned with airport safety. Airports are typically very crowded and bustling areas. People bump into one another and are forced to turn their backs to strangers while waiting in lines. Travelers should always keep a firm grasp on valuables like luggage and pocketbooks, and refrain from becoming distracted and leaving items unattended. Some criminals work in pairs, where one spills food or drink which causes a scene, while the second criminal makes off with a bag while the traveler is distracted by the mess.
