July 4th celebrations are synonymous with missing pets

NAPLES, Fla. - June 13, 2014 - PRLog -- SOUTH FLORIDA – The July 4^th weekend is one of the most dangerous times of the year for family pets.  There is a 30% to 60% increase in the number of lost pets during this time. Current statistics show that only 14% of these lost pets are ever returned to their owners. Up to 60% of the pets that remain lost are eventuallyeuthanized because of lack of space in shelters after the holiday.

Loud noises and bright lights are frightening for pets. There are ways to enjoy the holiday that are fun for both pets and pet owners, Edwards said.

“Do not leave your dog alone in the car or the back yard when you go to watch the fireworks. It would be best to have someone with your dog during times of loud noises and flashes to calm and redirect him,” she said.
