Google and Tomsk State University are jointly working on the Go Tomsk! Project

This is another event in the Go with Google Initiative sequence aimed at the Internet’s development and use of new technologies in Russian regions.

TOMSK, Russian Federation - June 11, 2014 - PRLog -- The Go Tomsk! program provides training sessions for teachers, students and school children. It is going to take place from June 16 till June 18 in Tomsk State University. The registration on the project’s website has already begun: vpered.withgoogle.com.

As a part of Go Tomsk! program, the Google’s experts and outside consultants will conduct dedicated educational sessions intended to increase the population’s computer competence levels: The teachers and education field’s employees wishing to efficiently use up-to-date information technologies in the learning process may take part in the Google’s Educational Summit. During the Summit, the participants will acquire practical experience of using key tools and services included into the Google Apps package for educational institutions. Google’s certified teachers will be the Summit’s trainers and hosts.

Information Science, Physics and Mathematics teachers as well as students of pedagogical higher education institutions with the above-mentioned specialties willing to learn how ScratchDuino construction kits and laboratories can be used for teaching computer science to school children may take part in the free robots engineering workshop.

The program also includes educational events for school children. At the Free Software Festival, school children and graduates will learn the Scratch programming language and be able to use those skills in practice during the contest. During the Code Day, June 16, school girls (5 to 7 grades) will get acquainted with algorithmic thinking basics in the course of an exciting quest and learn to create their own programs using Blockly, a visual programming language.

Besides, the Young IT Experts Development Day, a training session for students who are familiar with programming basics, will take place on June 18. The event will deal with acquiring the possibilities of such IT communities as the university environment, developers’ blogs and forums, contest programming, developing projects based on open code, etc. During the trainings, the participants will get to know different educational resources, learn to develop Android applications, make alterations to an existing open source project and participate in a programming contest.

“Tomsk is one of Russia’s leading cities in educational development. Taking that into account, we developed a special seminar program for teachers, students, graduates and school children which will help them get current knowledge in robot engineering and programming”, Gulnara Lastovetskaya, head of Go with Google program, said.

“We are glad to cooperate with Tomsk State University and hope that upon the program’s accomplishment, the participants will not only learn to correctly use the up-to-date technologies but also be able to contribute to creation and development of projects simplifying dealing with everyday problems.”

The participation in all sessions of the Go Tomsk! program is free. To visit the events, you have to register on the project’s website. The events will take place from June 16 to June 18 in Tomsk State University. The sessions’ timetable and detailed description are given on the project’s website. Tomsk is the fourth city where the Go with Google events are going to take place. The events were held in Kazan in October and in Novosibirsk in November and December 2013. From June 5 to June 10, the educational sessions are going to take place in Krasnoyarsk.
