“That Guy with the Birds” Is Home at the 2014 Steel City Pet Expo

PITTSBURGH - June 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Jon Lege has always been a “bird” kind of guy. Ever since he was a child, animals of the feathered-variety have had a special place in his heart. As an adult, however, he was able to take that love and turn it into a parrot show.

“I have been rescuing parrots for 35 years. I don’t buy, or sell, or breed,” Lege says about his work, “This is not a circus – first and foremost, this is educational; it’s to learn about these amazing animals and about them as pets,” Lege says.

All of the birds in the show are rescues. Lege takes care of them and trains them – if they happen to be good in a crowd, he makes them part of the show. Lege and his parrots travel halfway across the country to perform and educate the public. He is typically booked all year round and has done small shows for birthday parties with just six children all the way up to crowds with as many as 100,000 people.

“This [Steel City Pet Expo] is in my backyard,” he explains. “I’m always on the road, from small towns nearby to big cities like Chicago, IL. But it’s nice to be home.”

John Lege will be on stage at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center with his parrots at the 2014 Steel City Pet Expo to talk about the importance of birds and their well-being.  Attendees should also know to stop by his booth to find out more information one-on-one.

The Steel City Pet Expo will also feature opportunities for fan photos and autographs with both Shorty Rossi (Animal Planet’s “Pit Boss” & “America’s Cutest Pets”) and Celebrity Dog Trainer Harrison Forbes (“Good Morning America” and the “Today Show”), along with more than 70 exhibitors, live entertainment and demonstrations, and a Petfinder.com mega-adoption area with more than 150 rescue pets available for adoption. Low-cost immunizations, discounted microchipping and free nail trims will also be available for all the furry friends who need them.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 28^th, 2014 from 10am to 6pm, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. This free, indoor and air-conditioned event is expected to attract more than 12,000 attendees along with their furry, feathered and reptilian pals who are looking to enjoy a new and one-of-a-kind experience where all pets can enjoy a fun day out with their pet parent(s). All well-behaved pets are welcome, as long as they’re on a fixed lead (or in a carrier) and have proof of age-appropriate rabies vaccines.
