Follow on Google News | Gettysburg: One Woman's War- A Theatrical Performance with Michele LaRueGettysburg: One Woman’s War stars Michele LaRue as townswoman Mary Bowman of Gettysburg who explores the physical and emotional terrain of this great Civil War battle. At the Oliver Wolcott Library on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 from 7:00- 8:00 p.m.
Michele adapted this presentation from Elsie Singmaster’s book, Gettysburg: Stories of the Red Harvest and the Aftermath published in 1913. Her fictional wife and mother, Mary Bowman, grabs our imagination and our hearts. With Mary we experience the cannon’s first roar, to the bewilderment and devastation that follow; from the promise of Lincoln’s visit and commemoration, to the healing that only time can bring. Michele LaRue, a graduate in Acting from the University of Kansas, is a member of the Actor’s Equity Association and SAG-AFTRA, and is a theatre editor and writer for Drama Desk, an organization of New York drama critics. Michele tours nationally with a repertoire of historic one-woman productions and has presented her offerings at more than 300 venues, including Washington’s Smithsonian Institution, Chicago’s Newberry Library, and NYC’s Lincoln Center. All Oliver Wolcott Library events are free and open to the public. Space is limited. Registration is required and can be done by calling 860-567-8030 or logging onto www.owlibrary.org and clicking on Programs/Adult Programs. End
