Michael Caputo Named 2014 Man of the Year: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® – Savannah, GA

June 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Savannah, GA — June 10, 2014 – Michael Caputo of Starkey Mortgage (WR Starkey Mortgage, LLP NMLSR# 2146) was named the 2014 Man of the Year for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® in Savannah, GA.  Caputo and other community leaders challenged each other to see who could raise the most money over a ten week time period for this organization. All money raised during the campaign goes directly to the LLS mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Michael would be the first to tell you that many individuals throughout Starkey Mortgage contributed, however, it was he who spear-headed this campaign, raising $76, 650. This amount was the most any candidate from Savannah has ever raised.

Michael grew up in Kalamazoo, MI, attended Benedictine Military School and graduated from the University of Georgia. During college, he launched his career in mortgage banking and in 2011, joined Starkey Mortgage as a Sr. Loan Officer. Michael serves on the board of the Zoe Foundation and St. James Catholic School, plus he coaches soccer and basketball for his children’s’ teams. Married to Laura, they have three children, ages 5 – 13 years. When asked why he wanted to accept this fundraising challenge, Michael says, “It’s a chance for families like mine who have been blessed with good health to help fund the research in prevention methods, and to help heal the scars from those that have been impacted.”

Michael was awarded this honor during the Grand Finale Celebration at the Charles H. Morris Center on June 6^th. Community winners, including Michael, will be included as candidates for the National Man & Woman of the Year award. Those winners will be announced later in 2014.
